Upon This Rock is a company truly well founded. The business started with the vision of Mark Austin, whose career spans the gamut of the stone industry. Mark believes that the company’s success is the result of having a staff that is knowledgeable, helpful and customer-focused. As Mark says, we all work together to "Make it right, no matter what it takes."

MARK
MARK AUSTIN is the founder of Upon This Rock. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Mark is now an American citizen living here in Vermont. When he is not working he loves to go fly fishing. "I work to fish!"
Experience is the key to Mark’s extensive knowledge of the product and the business. He has worked in construction where he learned about heavy equipment, drilling, and explosives. Then in the quarry where he learned the basics of cutting and extracting stone.
A downturn in the construction industry demanded a change. Applying his education in mechanical engineering and marketing Mark then moved on to international wholesale marketing of granite with a South African firm. He eventually went to Canada to work with their North American agent. Mark says he has "never looked back" from the move; "the stone business gets in your blood."
In 1993, when the Canadian agent retired, Mark found himself here in Vermont where he started Granite International in South Burlington. He continued wholesaling granite from around the world until he decided to expand into fabrication. In 2005 Upon This Rock was born.

DEBORAH
DEBORAH HARDY is the office manager at Upon This Rock. Along with seeing that the daily office administration runs smoothly she takes care of production scheduling and assists customers with monuments, markers and laser etching projects.
Deborah is a long time Vermont resident. Before coming to Upon This Rock she was a guide and school program coordinator at the Shelburne Museum.

STEPHANIE
STEPHANIE MAHEU is the newest member of the Upon This Rock staff but is no rookie to the industry with over 18 years in the granite fabrication field. She specializes in kitchen design.
To say Stephanie likes sports is an understatement! When she is not working you will find her playing basketball, broomball, and softball or out on the roads on a bicycle. Stephanie has been in Vermont for over 14 years.
